Container and air-freight supply of raw, roasted, flavoured and private label makhana for importers, distributors and retail buyers in Germany — with EU food law, enforced by the Länder food control authorities and the BVL documentation and destination-ready labelling handled before dispatch.
What clearance actually requires, who carries the obligation, and where first shipments go wrong.
Germany applies EU rules, enforced with unusual rigour at state level. Contaminant limits sit under the EU contaminants regulation and pesticide residues under the EU MRL regime, which for many actives defaults to a very low limit where no specific MRL exists. Organic consignments need a Certificate of Inspection raised in TRACES NT before arrival. One item to settle early with your importer: any food without a significant history of consumption in the EU before May 1997 falls under the Novel Food regulation, and the status of a given botanical is a question your importer's regulatory advisor should confirm in writing rather than assume. It is a due-diligence step, not a formality, and it is better resolved before a container sails than after.
German-language labelling under EU Regulation 1169/2011: nutrition declaration per 100 g, allergens emphasised within the ingredient list, net quantity, best-before date and an EU-established food business operator address. Quantitative ingredient declaration applies where a seasoning is named or shown. German retail and drugstore chains frequently ask for more than the legal minimum — residue testing at tighter tolerances than the MRL, and documentation of the sourcing chain.
EU Common Customs Tariff under HS 0802.99 for plain and roasted product, 2008.19 for seasoned retail preparations. Rates and any preferential treatment should be confirmed against the current TARIC entry at the time of shipment.
None of this is advice you should act on without your own customs broker confirming the item-level position — tariff treatment changes, and it changes by classification rather than by product name. What we guarantee is the documentation: invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, health certificate and accredited lab analysis, prepared in-house and couriered ahead of arrival.

Hamburg and Bremerhaven handle the container volume, with onward rail and barge distribution across Germany and into Central Europe. Rotterdam is a viable alternative entry point if your distribution is Benelux-weighted; many German importers clear there instead.
Steadier than most of our markets. Organic and health retail sells year-round with a modest January lift, and the autumn trade-fair cycle — Anuga and BioFach among them — drives sampling and new-listing conversations well ahead of actual orders.

This is the right question to ask before importing, and the honest answer is that it is one for your importer's regulatory advisor to confirm in writing. The EU Novel Food regulation captures foods without significant consumption history in the EU before May 1997, and status can turn on the specific botanical and the form in which it is sold. We supply full botanical identification, origin and process documentation to support that assessment — what we will not do is give you a blanket assurance that belongs to a qualified regulatory opinion.
The legal baseline is the EU MRL regime, which for actives without a specific MRL defaults to a very low limit. German organic and drugstore buyers frequently specify tighter internal tolerances than the law requires. We test at an accredited laboratory per lot and can work to a buyer-specified panel rather than a generic certificate.
Organic consignments require a Certificate of Inspection issued in TRACES NT by the certifying body before arrival, tied to that specific lot. We supply NPOP-certified material under EU equivalence arrangements with per-lot transaction certificates and segregated processing, so the chain of custody holds up to an inspection.
500 kg for a single grade by air, or one container load by sea — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana cubes out before it weighs out. Private label runs are set by the printed-film minimum, currently 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format.
Samples reach you in 3–5 working days. On a confirmed order, production runs 10–15 days, then 20–26 days by sea; 3–5 days by air Add clearance and inland movement at your end.

Short, direct answers to the questions we get most often from importers, distributors and brand owners.
Most orders move by sea in FCL containers from Nhava Sheva, Mundra or Kolkata; urgent or sample volumes go by air from Delhi or Mumbai. We work on FOB, CFR, CIF and DDP terms, whichever suits your freight arrangement. Because makhana is low density, we plan the load by volume so you are not paying for half-empty containers, and we can consolidate multiple grades or SKUs into a single container.
Bevive Retail Pvt. Ltd. holds an Importer Exporter Code (IEC), an FSSAI licence, APEDA registration, GST registration and Startup India recognition. Processing runs at our Darbhanga plant and contracted partner units operating ISO 22000 / HACCP food safety systems, and organic lots are supplied against NPOP and NOP certification. For each shipment we provide a certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and a third-party lab report covering moisture, aflatoxin, pesticide residue and microbiological limits. Buyer-appointed inspection agencies such as SGS or Bureau Veritas are welcome at any stage.
For loose bulk makhana the practical minimum is 500 kg for air freight and one container load for sea freight — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana is very light and cubes out before it weighs out. For private label retail packs the MOQ is 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format, driven by the printed-film minimum rather than by us. First-time buyers can start with a smaller trial shipment while a relationship is being established.
