Container and air-freight supply of raw, roasted, flavoured and private label makhana for importers, distributors and retail buyers in United Kingdom — with Food Standards Agency (FSA), and Food Standards Scotland in Scotland documentation and destination-ready labelling handled before dispatch.
What clearance actually requires, who carries the obligation, and where first shipments go wrong.
Since the GB regime diverged from the EU, the food business operator named on the pack must be established in Great Britain — a point that catches brands trying to run a UK listing off an EU entity. Your GB importer holds that responsibility along with due-diligence records on the supplier. Makhana is a low-risk product of non-animal origin, so it does not attract the pre-notification burden that animal products do, but the importer still needs a documented HACCP-based system and traceability one step back.
GB retained the FIC rules, so the shape of the label is familiar: a back-of-pack nutrition declaration per 100 g, a "best before" date, allergens emphasised within the ingredient list rather than in a separate box, and a UK address for the food business operator. Since October 2022 that address must be a UK one. Quantitative ingredient declaration applies where a seasoning is named or pictured on front of pack.
Classified under HS 0802.99 for plain and roasted product, moving to 2008.19 once seasoned and retail-packed. Duty follows the UK Global Tariff, which differs from the EU Common Customs Tariff — if you are pricing a UK listing off an EU landed cost, re-run it.
None of this is advice you should act on without your own customs broker confirming the item-level position — tariff treatment changes, and it changes by classification rather than by product name. What we guarantee is the documentation: invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, health certificate and accredited lab analysis, prepared in-house and couriered ahead of arrival.

Felixstowe and London Gateway take most container volume from Nhava Sheva; Southampton suits south-coast distribution. Deep-sea services run via Suez or the Cape according to conditions. For a first listing, air freight into Heathrow gets shelf-ready stock in under a week.
Diwali drives a September–November peak through both mainstream and South Asian retail, and January brings the health-snack reset. Supermarket range reviews typically land twice a year, so sampling has to be timed to the buyer's calendar rather than to the shipping one.

You need a food business operator established in Great Britain whose name and UK address appear on the pack. That can be your own UK entity or your importer acting as FBO. It cannot be an EU address alone, which is the change most brands miss when moving a European listing across.
We issue one as standard with every consignment, alongside the certificate of origin and lab analysis. Requirements for plant products are reviewed periodically, so your broker should confirm the current list against the commodity code at the time of shipment rather than relying on a prior entry.
Typically a product specification, HACCP flow diagram, allergen matrix, shelf-life validation, pesticide and aflatoxin results from an accredited lab, and evidence of the processing unit's food safety system. We hold all of these and can complete most retailer technical questionnaires directly.
500 kg for a single grade by air, or one container load by sea — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana cubes out before it weighs out. Private label runs are set by the printed-film minimum, currently 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format.
Samples reach you in 3–5 working days. On a confirmed order, production runs 10–15 days, then 20–26 days by sea; 3–5 days by air Add clearance and inland movement at your end.

Short, direct answers to the questions we get most often from importers, distributors and brand owners.
Most orders move by sea in FCL containers from Nhava Sheva, Mundra or Kolkata; urgent or sample volumes go by air from Delhi or Mumbai. We work on FOB, CFR, CIF and DDP terms, whichever suits your freight arrangement. Because makhana is low density, we plan the load by volume so you are not paying for half-empty containers, and we can consolidate multiple grades or SKUs into a single container.
Bevive Retail Pvt. Ltd. holds an Importer Exporter Code (IEC), an FSSAI licence, APEDA registration, GST registration and Startup India recognition. Processing runs at our Darbhanga plant and contracted partner units operating ISO 22000 / HACCP food safety systems, and organic lots are supplied against NPOP and NOP certification. For each shipment we provide a certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and a third-party lab report covering moisture, aflatoxin, pesticide residue and microbiological limits. Buyer-appointed inspection agencies such as SGS or Bureau Veritas are welcome at any stage.
For loose bulk makhana the practical minimum is 500 kg for air freight and one container load for sea freight — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana is very light and cubes out before it weighs out. For private label retail packs the MOQ is 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format, driven by the printed-film minimum rather than by us. First-time buyers can start with a smaller trial shipment while a relationship is being established.
