Container and air-freight supply of raw, roasted, flavoured and private label makhana for importers, distributors and retail buyers in United States — with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) documentation and destination-ready labelling handled before dispatch.
What clearance actually requires, who carries the obligation, and where first shipments go wrong.
Three things must be in place before a container sails. The processing facility has to hold a current FDA food facility registration, renewed every even-numbered year. Prior Notice must be filed for each consignment ahead of arrival. And you, as importer of record, must operate a Foreign Supplier Verification Program with a named qualified individual holding the supplier approval file, hazard analysis and verification records. FSVP is the one that catches new importers: FDA audits the importer's paperwork, not the exporter's, and an unprepared FSVP file is the most common reason a first shipment is held.
Nutrition Facts in the current FDA format, ingredients in descending order of weight, and a "Product of India" country-of-origin marking. Plain makhana is naturally free of all nine major allergens, which is a genuine selling point on a US pack — but seasoned lines change that, since cheese and cream profiles introduce milk and some barbecue systems introduce soy. Those must be declared under FALCPA. We supply the ingredient breakdown and allergen statement per SKU so your label designer is not guessing.
Plain and roasted makhana classifies under HS 0802.99 as other shelled nuts; seasoned retail snack preparations generally move to 2008.19. India is no longer a GSP beneficiary, so duty-free treatment under that programme is not available and landed cost should be modelled at the standard rate for the heading. Confirm the exact HTSUS subheading with your customs broker before you price a listing.
None of this is advice you should act on without your own customs broker confirming the item-level position — tariff treatment changes, and it changes by classification rather than by product name. What we guarantee is the documentation: invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, health certificate and accredited lab analysis, prepared in-house and couriered ahead of arrival.

East Coast services load at Nhava Sheva and route via Suez or the Cape depending on Red Sea conditions, which is why the transit band is wide. West Coast services run trans-Pacific and are usually the faster option for Long Beach. Air freight through Delhi or Mumbai suits sample volumes and Diwali top-ups.
Two peaks. Diwali gifting pulls orders from September into November, and the January health-resolution cycle drives retail replenishment through Q1. Book Diwali volume by July — sailing schedules tighten and a late booking loses the season, not just the week.

Legally the US importer of record. Practically we carry most of the weight: we supply the facility registration number, hazard analysis, testing records, process controls and corrective-action history your qualified individual needs to build the file. What we cannot do is sign it — FSVP obligations sit with the US entity by statute.
Yes. Prior Notice is per consignment, not per supplier, and must be filed before arrival at the port of entry. Your broker normally files it from the commercial invoice and packing list, both of which we issue ahead of vessel departure.
Yes. We print US-format Nutrition Facts, FALCPA allergen statements and country-of-origin marking under your brand. Artwork is approved before the print run, and the printed-film minimum is what sets the order quantity rather than anything on our side.
Roasted lots carry nine to twelve months from production. A 26–34 day sea leg plus clearance and inland movement typically consumes six to eight weeks, so plan retail listings around ten months of usable life. Air freight preserves close to full shelf life and is worth it for a first listing or a seasonal top-up.
500 kg for a single grade by air, or one container load by sea — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana cubes out before it weighs out. Private label runs are set by the printed-film minimum, currently 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format.
Samples reach you in 3–5 working days. On a confirmed order, production runs 10–15 days, then 26–34 days by sea from nhava sheva; 4–6 days by air Add clearance and inland movement at your end.

Share grade, volume and discharge port. Our export desk replies within 24–48 business hours with pricing, a specification sheet and a shipping schedule for United States.
Short, direct answers to the questions we get most often from importers, distributors and brand owners.
Most orders move by sea in FCL containers from Nhava Sheva, Mundra or Kolkata; urgent or sample volumes go by air from Delhi or Mumbai. We work on FOB, CFR, CIF and DDP terms, whichever suits your freight arrangement. Because makhana is low density, we plan the load by volume so you are not paying for half-empty containers, and we can consolidate multiple grades or SKUs into a single container.
Bevive Retail Pvt. Ltd. holds an Importer Exporter Code (IEC), an FSSAI licence, APEDA registration, GST registration and Startup India recognition. Processing runs at our Darbhanga plant and contracted partner units operating ISO 22000 / HACCP food safety systems, and organic lots are supplied against NPOP and NOP certification. For each shipment we provide a certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and a third-party lab report covering moisture, aflatoxin, pesticide residue and microbiological limits. Buyer-appointed inspection agencies such as SGS or Bureau Veritas are welcome at any stage.
For loose bulk makhana the practical minimum is 500 kg for air freight and one container load for sea freight — around 6–8 MT in a 20ft container and 14–16 MT in a 40ft high cube, since makhana is very light and cubes out before it weighs out. For private label retail packs the MOQ is 1,000–5,000 units per SKU depending on pack format, driven by the printed-film minimum rather than by us. First-time buyers can start with a smaller trial shipment while a relationship is being established.
